High School GPA Calculator
Unweighted and weighted GPA in one table. Mark each class Regular, Honors, or AP/IB and both numbers update live.
Local onlyEvery calculation happens in this browser tab. Courses and grades are kept in your own browser so they survive a refresh. Nothing is uploaded, and the page keeps working offline.
Colleges usually look at two numbers: your unweighted GPA on the flat 4.0 scale, and your weighted GPA, where harder courses earn a bump: commonly +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP or IB. This calculator shows both at once, so you can see exactly what each course type is doing to your average.
The bump applies only to passing grades: a failed AP class is still a 0.0. Course weight (credits) matters too — a year-long course typically counts 1.0 credit and a semester course 0.5. Districts differ on every one of these conventions, so treat your school's official transcript as the source of truth and this page as the working model.

Questions this calculator gets asked
How do I calculate my weighted GPA?
Mark each class Regular, Honors, or AP/IB in the table above. The calculator adds +0.5 to Honors grades and +1.0 to AP/IB grades before credit-weighting, which is the convention most US districts use.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA treats every class the same on a 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA adds a bonus for harder courses, typically +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP/IB, so a B in an AP class can count like an A in a regular one.
Do colleges use weighted or unweighted GPA?
Most selective colleges recalculate GPA their own way from your transcript, often unweighted but in the context of course rigor. Report whichever your school puts on the transcript, and know both numbers.
Does a failing grade get the AP bump?
No. The bump applies to passing grades only; an F is 0.0 regardless of course type, which is how this calculator computes it.
How many credits is each class?
Most US high schools count a year-long class as 1.0 credit and a semester class as 0.5. Your district may differ; use the values from your transcript.
