How the medie de admitere actually works

For the current admission session the formula is short: MA = (nota la Română + nota la Matematică) / 2, per the ministry's methodology (Order 6060/2025, Annex 2 for the 2026 session; the order is re-issued yearly). The Evaluarea Națională papers are themselves scored 1-10 to two decimals. Worked example from the methodology: (8.60 + 9.40) / 2 = 9.00.

Two details decide real placements. First, the result is computed to two decimals fără rotunjire - without rounding. A raw average of 9.4449 is a 9.44; nothing ever rounds up. Ordinary calculators that round to two decimals overstate averages at exactly the boundaries where liceu places are decided. Second, media claselor V-VIII is no longer in the formula - it was removed starting with the 2023 session (the old rule was 80% exam, 20% gimnaziu average). It survives only as the first tiebreaker, followed by the Romanian grade, the Maths grade and the mother-tongue grade. Minority-language candidates also sit limba maternă, which by default enters their average - the row above includes it when filled - though its exclusion can be formally requested.

This is the number used in repartizarea computerizată: candidates are ordered by medie de admitere against each liceu's places, which is why last year's ultima medie for your target school is the number to beat - enter it in the target box above. The governing methodology is the Ministry of Education's yearly admission order (6060/2025 for the 2026 session) - the order number changes each year, the formula is re-stated in its annex, and this page tracks the current one. For school and university averages on the ordinary 1-10 scale, the Romanian grade calculator is the right tool.

Questions this calculator gets asked

How is the medie de admitere calculated?

For the 2026 session, per ME Order 6060/2025: (nota la Română + nota la Matematică) / 2, computed to two decimals WITHOUT rounding. The average of the V-VIII years no longer enters the formula - it is only the first tiebreaker.

Is the result rounded?

No - and this is the trap. The methodology says 'fără rotunjire': the average is cut at two decimals, never rounded up. A raw 9.4449 is a 9.44, not a 9.45. Calculators that round overstate real averages.

Does the media claselor V-VIII still count?

Not in the formula, since the 2023 admission session. It survives only as the first tiebreaker when two candidates have the same medie de admitere, followed by the Romanian grade, the Maths grade, then the mother-tongue grade.

Does limba maternă count for minority-language students?

By default yes - it enters the Evaluarea Națională average alongside Romanian and Maths - but the student may formally request its exclusion. This calculator has a row for it you can include or clear.

What was the old formula?

Until the 2022 session: 80% Evaluarea Națională average + 20% media claselor V-VIII. It was eliminated starting with the 2023 session, so any page still showing 80/20 is describing history.

Is this medie de admitere calculator free and private?

Yes. No account, nothing uploaded - the average is computed in your browser and your grades stay on your device.
