The Deakin formula, from the source

WAM = Σ(credit points × mark) ÷ Σcredit points of contributing units, per Deakin's WAM page, whose own example this page reproduces: two 60s, two 75s, one 80 and one withdrawn-fail at its default zero, over six contributing credit points, give 350 ÷ 6 = 58.3.

Deakin's default marks for grade-only results: Pass Conceded 50, XN and Withdrawn Fail 0; late-withdrawals (WL), ungraded passes and credit for prior learning stay out entirely. Two structural quirks worth knowing: the WAM does not appear on the transcript (it is an internal measure), and a combined course carries a separate WAM per degree. Bands: HD from 80, D 70-79, C 60-69, P 50-59. Deakin uses no GPA and publishes no conversion.

Beside it: Monash halves first-year weights, RMIT keeps its WAM for honours only, and the general WAM calculator covers the plain case.

Questions this calculator gets asked

How is the Deakin WAM calculated?

Sum of (credit points × mark) over the contributing units, divided by their total credit points. Deakin's own example - 60, 60, 75, 75, 80 and a withdrawn fail at zero - gives 58.3.

What mark does a withdrawn fail carry at Deakin?

Zero, and it stays in the calculation. A Pass Conceded carries a default 50. Late withdrawals and ungraded passes are excluded entirely.

Why is my Deakin WAM not on my transcript?

Because Deakin treats the WAM as an internal measure - it is calculated and used, but not printed on the transcript.

Does Deakin use a GPA?

No. Deakin's page says directly that it uses a WAM where some institutions use a GPA, and publishes no conversion between the two.
