How μόρια actually work since 2022

For admission through the Panhellenic exams (ΓΕΛ), four subjects are graded 0-20, decimals included. Each university department publishes its own συντελεστές βαρύτητας - four coefficients, each at least 20%, summing to exactly 100%. Your μόρια are the coefficient-weighted sum of your four grades, times 1000:

Μόρια = (grade₁×σ₁ + grade₂×σ₂ + grade₃×σ₃ + grade₄×σ₄) × 1000

Worked example, consistent with the ministry's own calculator: grades 17, 18.6, 20 and 19 with coefficients 30%, 30%, 20%, 20% give (5.1 + 5.58 + 4 + 3.8) × 1000 = 18,480 μόρια. The maximum is 20,000. Departments requiring a special subject (ειδικό μάθημα - a language, design) add its coefficient of 10% or 20% on top of the 100%, raising their ceiling to 22,000 or 24,000; where two special subjects are required they carry 20% between them, each at least 8%.

Two honest limits. First, the coefficients are per department - the same four grades produce different μόρια at different departments, so this calculator takes your department's numbers from the ministry's published tables rather than guessing a national set that no longer exists (it did before 2022; older examples are wrong now). Second, the ΕΒΕ (Ελάχιστη Βάση Εισαγωγής) - the minimum threshold you must clear to list a department - is computed from all candidates' performance times a factor between 0.80 and 1.20, so no tool can derive it from your grades alone. For the university degree average after admission, the βαθμός πτυχίου calculator is the right tool - a different formula entirely. ΕΠΑΛ candidates follow a separate scheme this page does not cover.

The authoritative references are the ministry's own: its official μόρια calculator (this page matches it) and the gov.gr μόρια page, where the per-department coefficient tables are published each year.

Questions this calculator gets asked

How are μόρια calculated?

Each of the four Panhellenic subjects (graded 0-20) is multiplied by the department's own coefficient (συντελεστής βαρύτητας), the four products are summed, and the sum is multiplied by 1000. Maximum 20,000, or up to 24,000 where a special subject adds its own 10% or 20%.

What are the συντελεστές βαρύτητας?

Weights each university department sets for the four subjects: each at least 20%, the four summing to exactly 100%. They differ per department for the same subjects, so there is no single national answer - this calculator takes them as input, from the ministry's published tables.

What is the ΕΒΕ?

The Ελάχιστη Βάση Εισαγωγής, a per-department minimum threshold: the mean performance of the field's candidates times a factor the department picks between 0.80 and 1.20. You must clear it to list the department at all. It depends on all candidates' marks, so no calculator can compute it from your grades alone.

What is the maximum number of μόρια?

20,000 from the four subjects. Departments that require a special subject (ειδικό μάθημα) add its coefficient of 10% or 20% on top, taking the ceiling to 22,000 or 24,000.

Did the formula change?

Yes - from the 2022 exams. The old fixed national coefficients are gone; departments now set their own within the 20%-minimum, sum-100% rule. Any pre-2022 worked example computes the wrong number today.
