How the OBP actually works

The ÖSYM guide states it in one line: the 100-scale diploma grade is multiplied by 5 to become the Ortaöğretim Başarı Puanı - so the OBP runs from 250 to 500, because grades below 50, and unreported grades, are treated as 50. It is computed across Turkey as a whole; the old school-success adjustment is gone. Your diploma notu is pulled from e-okul by ÖSYM and confirmed in AİS - corrections go through your school.

The OBP never touches your exam score. It is added at the placement stage: yerleştirme puanı = sınav puanı + 0.12 × OBP, a contribution between 30 and 60 points, where each diploma-grade point is worth 0.6 placement points. Two rules move real outcomes. First, the halving: anyone centrally placed into a programme in last year's YKS - kayıt olsun veya olmasın, enrolled or not - carries 0.06 instead of 0.12 this year (the one exception: placed as a final-year student and barred from registering for lack of a diploma - no halving). Second, the ek puan: vocational-school graduates placed into programmes listed for their own field get an additional 0.06 × OBP - effectively 0.18 in total, which is all that remains of the old 0.18 story. The ek puan halves too.

Worked example: diploma notu 85.4 gives OBP 427.0 and a standard contribution of 51.24 points; if you were placed last year, 25.62; a first-attempt vocational graduate in an own-field programme gets 51.24 + 25.62 = 76.86. Every rule on this page is from the ÖSYM 2026-YKS Kılavuzu (sections 4.1-4.2), read verbatim - including two details worth reading twice: the halving applies to anyone placed, not just enrolled, and OBP is floored at 250, never lower. How is the OBP calculated?

Diploma notu times 5: a 50 diploma grade gives OBP 250, a 100 gives 500. Grades below 50 - or unreported ones - are treated as 50, so the OBP never goes below 250. It is computed nationwide with no school-level adjustment.

How many points does the OBP add to my YKS score?

OBP times 0.12, added at the placement stage to every yerleştirme puanı - between 30 and 60 points. Each diploma-grade point is worth 0.6 placement points at the full coefficient.

When is the coefficient halved?

If you were centrally placed into a programme last year - whether or not you enrolled - or registered via a special-talent exam, the 0.12 becomes 0.06 (and the vocational ek puan's 0.06 becomes 0.03). Exception: candidates placed as final-year students who could not register because they had not yet graduated keep the full coefficient.

Who gets the ek puan?

Graduates of vocational programmes, only when placed into programmes listed for their own field in the ÖSYM guide's tables: an additional OBP × 0.06 on top of the standard contribution.

Does a 0.18 coefficient still exist?

Not as a standalone coefficient. A vocational graduate placing into an own-field programme effectively gets 0.12 + 0.06 = 0.18 of OBP, but the old teacher-track coefficients are gone.

Does my school's success affect my OBP?

No. The current system computes OBP across Turkey as a whole - the old school-adjusted AOBP no longer exists, so any calculator still asking for your school's averages is out of date.
