Saudi public universities grade out of 5.0 with two rules found almost nowhere else: a plain A carries 4.75 (only the A+ at 95%+ earns the full 5.0), and a failed course still contributes 1.0 grade points - an F is costly, but it never zeroes out. The taqdeer at graduation is the line scholarships, government employment grades, and postgraduate admissions read - and because the A is 4.75, a “perfect-looking” 4.75 GPA is a straight-A record, not a flawed one. The 5-point scale in the Council of Higher Education's unified regulation has two features that surprise everyone else: an A carries 4.75 (only the A+ reaches 5.0), and an F still carries 1.0 grade points rather than zero. Credit-hour weighted, with the cumulative taqdeer bands shown (Excellent from 4.50). Some universities use a 4.0 scale instead, so match the calculator to the maximum printed on your transcript.

Why does an F carry 1.0 points in the Saudi system?

The scale's floor is 1.0 by design - failure costs heavily but never contributes zero, which slightly cushions the cumulative GPA compared to zero-floor systems. It also means a Saudi GPA can never fall below 1.0.
