Four subjects, four separate verdicts

The Dominican Pruebas Nacionales formula, per MINERD: each subject's final grade is 70% the school's accumulated average plus 30% the national test, and each of the four subjects - Lengua Española, Matemática, Ciencias Sociales, Ciencias Naturales - must pass on its own at 70 in secundaria (65 in primaria and básica de adultos, per Ordenanza 04-2023). Nothing averages across subjects; a 90 in Lengua rescues no points in Matemática. Up to three convocatorias exist, and a subject passed in any of them stays passed.

Worked example: school average 78, prueba 62 gives 0.70 × 78 + 0.30 × 62 = 54.6 + 18.6 = 73.2, a pass. And the inverse is the number worth sharing: with that same 78 from the centro, the exact minimum is (70 − 54.6) / 0.30 = 51.33, which this page rounds up to 51.4 - because a 51.3 lands at 69.99, and pages that print the truncated number send students in one decimal short. Strong school years make the prueba nearly unfailable, and students deserve to see that number before exam week instead of the fear. This page computes it per subject, blank prueba fields included: enter only your centro grades and each row shows its minimum.

One caution kept honest: MINERD's materials state the 70 line without a round-up rule, so this page treats 70.00 as the bar and leaves any decimal mercy to your centro's records office. For the 0-100 scale generally and conversions abroad, the GPA converter covers the Dominican system.

Questions this calculator gets asked

How much is the prueba worth?

30%. Your school average (calificación del centro) carries the other 70%, per MINERD's formula: final grade = 0.70 × school + 0.30 × prueba, checked against the 70 pass line in secundaria.

Are the four subjects averaged together?

No - each of the four (Lengua Española, Matemática, Ciencias Sociales, Ciencias Naturales) is passed separately at 70. A 90 in one subject rescues nothing in another.

How many convocatorias do I get?

Up to three. A subject passed in any convocatoria stays passed; only the pending ones are retaken.

Is the pass 70 everywhere?

70 in secundaria and media de adultos; 65 in primaria and básica de adultos, per Ordenanza 04-2023. This page's check uses the level you pick.

Does a 69.5 pass?

Do not count on rounding - MINERD's published materials state the 70 line without a round-up rule, so treat 70.00 as the number to reach and ask your centro how it records decimals.

What score do I need on the prueba?

The inverse this page computes: (70 − 0.70 × school average) / 0.30. With a school average of 78 the exact figure is 51.33, and the number to aim at is 51.4, not 51.3: a 51.3 gives 54.6 + 15.39 = 69.99 and fails by a hundredth. Always round this one up - it is the only direction that is safe.
