Argentine universities mark 1-10: a 4 passes a final (aprobado), with the concept ladder running bueno from 6, distinguido from 8, and sobresaliente at 10. Enter your notas below - use 1 as the credits for the classic unweighted promedio general, or real credit loads where your facultad weights them - and the average plus its band update live.

The number that actually organizes Argentine student life is 7: at most facultades, averaging 7 or better across parciales earns promoción directa - the course is passed outright, no final exam. And a warning about the promedio on your analítico: many careers compute it including aplazos (failed finals), which is the version scholarship rankings and CONICET applications typically request. Model both versions here; the difference can be startling.

This page is the UNIVERSITY scale. The words come from the Universidad de Buenos Aires code, art. 601, which fixes them exactly: Reprobado 0, Insuficiente 1 to 3, Aprobado 4 and 5, Bueno 6 and 7, Distinguido 8 and 9, Sobresaliente 10. So 4 is the pass for a final exam, and a 0 and a 2 are different verdicts rather than two ways of failing. Do not use this for escuela secundaria marks, where the pass is 6 out of 10 and a 4 is a fail. The number students chase is 7, because averaging 7 or more in cursada can earn promoción directa, which means passing without sitting the final. Whether your faculty offers it, and whether your promedio counts failed attempts, are both set by your own facultad.

Questions this calculator gets asked

How is the promedio calculated in Argentina?

Classically as a plain average of your notas (enter 1 for every course's credits here), since most facultades don't credit-weight. Sum the marks, divide by the count - with or without aplazos depending on which promedio is being asked for.

What is promoción directa and what average does it need?

Passing a course through coursework alone, no final exam - at most facultades it requires averaging 7+ across parciales (sometimes with no parcial below 6). It is the difference between a summer of finales and a summer off.

What is the passing mark in Argentine universities?

4 out of 10 for a final exam (aprobado). Below 4 is an aplazo - and at many careers that aplazo stays in your promedio permanently, even after you pass the retake.

Is an 8 promedio good in Argentina?

An 8 sits in the distinguido band on the UBA table this page follows. What a beca or a programme asks for is set and published by each of them.

Does the promedio include aplazos?

Depends on which promedio: the analítico often carries both versions - con aplazos and sin aplazos - and institutions specify which they want. CONICET and many scholarship rankings use con aplazos. Compute both here by adding or removing the failed rows.

Is this Argentine grade calculator free and private?

Yes. No sign-up, nothing uploaded - the promedio is computed in your browser and your notas never leave your device.
