Peru marks on the vigesimal scale: 0 to 20, with 11 the pass (a 10.5 rounds up at most universities). The promedio ponderado weights each course by its credits - nota times créditos over total créditos - and this calculator computes it live, with the bands Peruvian usage recognizes: aprobado from 11, muy bueno from 14, sobresaliente from 17.

The credential built on this number is positional: tercio superior and quinto superior - finishing in the top third or top fifth of your cohort by promedio ponderado - are asked for by name in Peruvian job postings, residency applications, and graduate admissions. A calculator cannot rank your cohort, but it can tell you the ponderado you are defending; universities publish the historical cutoffs per facultad.

Peru marks on the vigesimal 0-20 scale with 11 the pass. The promedio ponderado weights each course by its credits. Watch for the tercio and quinto superior, the top third and top fifth of your cohort by weighted average, because those are named standings rather than averages and your university decides how it ranks you into them.

Questions this calculator gets asked

How is the promedio ponderado calculated in Peru?

Each nota (out of 20) is multiplied by the course's credits, summed, and divided by total credits. That weighted average is the promedio ponderado this calculator computes - the number tercio superior rankings are built on.

What is the passing mark in Peru?

11 out of 20, with 10.5 rounding up to 11 at most universities - the most consequential half-point in Peruvian academia. Below that, the course is repeated and the failed nota typically stays on the record.

What are tercio and quinto superior?

Finishing in the top third (tercio) or top fifth (quinto) of your cohort by promedio ponderado - certifiable standings that Peruvian employers and graduate programs request by name. The ponderado cutoff varies by facultad and cohort; your university certifies the standing, not the number alone.

Is 15 a good grade in Peru?

Yes - comfortably in the muy bueno band. Peruvian marking is conservative: few courses award above 17, so a 15-16 promedio typically lands well inside tercio superior in most facultades.

How does the vigesimal scale convert to a US GPA?

There is no official conversion, so quote your average with its scale and let the evaluator read it. If you want a number for shortlisting, the GPA converter places your grade between this scale's pass line and its ceiling and prints the arithmetic it used, which is a method you can check rather than a table we made up.

Is this Peruvian grade calculator free and private?

Yes. No sign-up, nothing uploaded - the promedio is computed in your browser and your notas stay on your device.
