Three countries, three different 4.0 scales
All three scales top out at 4.0, and the likeness ends there. Bangladesh's UGC scale gives an A+ from 80 percent and steps down by 0.25 a grade. Pakistan's HEC pattern gives the full 4.0 from 85 percent. Nepal's NEB scale for SEE and Classes 11 and 12 runs from A+ at 4.0 down to D at 1.6, with NG below 35. An A- is 3.5 in Bangladesh and 3.7 in Pakistan, and Nepal has no A- at all, so pick your country above before you trust the number. Each country's full scale, notes and questions are below.
India and Sri Lanka have their own calculators: India's 10-point CGPA and Sri Lanka's UGC GPA. Bangladesh's SSC and HSC results use a 5.00 scale, which has its own calculator.
Is this calculator free, with nothing uploaded?
Yes. No account and no upload - your courses and grades are handled in your own browser and never reach a server, and the page keeps working offline once loaded.
Bangladesh: the UGC uniform scale
Bangladesh's UGC prescribed one uniform university scale: A+ carries 4.00 from 80%, and the letters step down by 0.25 - A 3.75, A− 3.50, B+ 3.25 - to D at 2.00 (40%), with below 40% an F. CGPA is the credit-weighted average, computed live below as you enter courses.
Keep the systems separate: SSC and HSC results use a 5.0 GPA with different letter mappings - the SSC & HSC GPA calculator implements those, including the 4th-subject rule - so a 5.00 at HSC and a 4.00 CGPA at university are both perfect scores in their own systems. For jobs and foreign applications, the university CGPA out of 4.00 with the UGC scale named is the number to report - the 0.25 steps make it self-explanatory to evaluators who know the region.
The Bangladeshi scale
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A+ (80-100) | 4.0 |
| A (75-79) | 3.75 |
| A- (70-74) | 3.5 |
| B+ (65-69) | 3.25 |
| B (60-64) | 3.0 |
| B- (55-59) | 2.75 |
| C+ (50-54) | 2.5 |
| C (45-49) | 2.25 |
| D (40-44) | 2.0 |
| F (below 40) | 0.0 |
This is the UGC's own Uniform Recommended Grading System, in force for all public and private universities from the 2006-2007 session: A+ = 4.00 at 80%+, stepping down in 0.25s to D = 2.00, with below 40% an F. CGPA is credit-weighted. Three things from the same circular. Universities may add I for an incomplete course and W for a withdrawn one. Institutions and colleges awarding a Pass degree were told to keep their old marking system, so a Pass-degree transcript is not on this scale. And the circular is worded as a recommendation that universities are nonetheless required to follow when finalising results and issuing transcripts. Public exams (SSC/HSC) use a similar letter set but a 5.0 GPA - this page is the university 4.0 system.

Questions about Bangladeshi grades
How is CGPA calculated in Bangladesh?
Under the UGC uniform scale, each course's grade points (A+ = 4.00 at 80%+, A = 3.75, down to D = 2.00) are multiplied by its credits, summed, and divided by total credits. This calculator runs that arithmetic live.
What percentage is an A+ in Bangladeshi universities?
80% and above earns the A+ at 4.00 under the UGC scale, with each letter below covering a 5% band (A at 75-79, A- at 70-74, and so on) down to D at 40-44.
Is university CGPA the same as SSC/HSC GPA?
No - school results (SSC/HSC) use a 5.0 GPA with its own letter bands, while universities use this 4.0 UGC scale. They are different systems; never convert one into the other directly.
What is a good CGPA in Bangladesh?
The UGC scale puts 3.50 in the A- band. What a recruiter, a scholarship or a foreign admissions office asks for is set by each of them and published in their own terms.
How does a Bangladeshi CGPA convert to a US GPA?
Both are 4.0 scales. Report the CGPA with the UGC scale named, so whoever reads it knows which table produced it.
Pakistan: the HEC 4.0 pattern
Pakistani universities follow the Higher Education Commission's 4.0 CGPA pattern: 85% and above earns an A worth 4.0, stepping down through B (70-74, 3.0) to D (50-54, 1.0), with below 50 a fail. Each course is weighted by its credit hours, and the CGPA is quality points over total credit hours - the arithmetic this calculator runs as you type. The grade menu shows each letter's percentage band, so you can enter courses straight from a marks sheet.
Where it gets untidy: universities map percentages to letters with small local differences (some award A− from 80, some from 79), and older institutions still run the annual Division system, where a First Division means 60%+ of total marks - a different animal from a 4.0 CGPA. This page computes the HEC-pattern CGPA; for Division-system results, your percentage is the number that matters.
The Pakistani scale
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A (85-100) | 4.0 |
| A- (80-84) | 3.66 |
| B+ (75-79) | 3.33 |
| B (71-74) | 3.0 |
| B- (68-70) | 2.66 |
| C+ (64-67) | 2.33 |
| C (61-63) | 2.0 |
| C- (58-60) | 1.66 |
| D+ (54-57) | 1.3 |
| D (50-53) | 1.0 |
| F (below 50) | 0.0 |
These are the grade points and percentage bands in the Higher Education Commission's own Fractionalized Grading System (s 13.1), credit-hour weighted. Note HEC writes A- as 3.66 and B+ as 3.33, where a university rounding to 3.67 and 3.33, or to 3.7 and 3.3, will not match it - the difference is small per course and visible on a borderline CGPA. HEC calls the table a recommendation rather than a requirement, so the mapping printed on your own transcript governs where it differs. Some institutions still issue Division-based results, First Division at 60 per cent of annual marks, and HEC publishes a separate conversion table for annual-system marks.

Questions about Pakistani grades
How is CGPA calculated in Pakistan?
Under the HEC pattern, each course's grade points (A = 4.0 at 85%+, B = 3.0 at 70-74%, down to D = 1.0) are multiplied by its credit hours, summed, and divided by total credit hours. This calculator computes exactly that, live.
What CGPA equals First Division in Pakistan?
Division is an annual-system concept and CGPA a semester-system one, so there is no fixed equivalence between them. The one that counts is whatever your university or your HEC attestation states.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage in Pakistan?
There is no single formula; universities publish their own tables, and HEC attestation follows the issuing university's conversion. As a rough guide from the grade bands, 4.0 corresponds to 85%+, 3.0 to about 70-74%.
What is a good CGPA in Pakistan?
3.5 sits in the A- to A range on the HEC table this page follows. HEC calls its table a recommendation, so your university's own semester rules decide what happens below the pass line.
Does an F stay in my CGPA after I repeat the course?
Policies vary: some universities replace the F with the retake grade in the CGPA while keeping both on the transcript, others average the attempts. Your university's semester rules decide - enter whichever grade will actually count.
Nepal: NEB grades for SEE and +2
The National Examinations Board grades every subject on the letter scale above: A+ (90-100) carries 4.0 grade points down to D (35-39) at 1.6, and below 35 the subject is Non-Graded (NG) rather than failed - it simply shows no grade point until the grade-increment exam clears it. Your GPA is the average of those grade points: equal-weighted for SEE, credit-hour weighted on Class 11 and 12 transcripts, so leave every credit at 1 for SEE and enter the transcript's credit hours for +2.
Two things this page will not pretend. First, the scale changed in 2078 BS (2021/22): the old D+, D and E bands with 1.2 and 0.8 points are gone, and any table still showing them is out of date. Second, NEB publishes no percentage - the grade sheet carries grades and GPA only. The GPA × 25 conversion that offices up and down the country accept is a convention, not an NEB rule, and it is internally inconsistent (an A spans 80-89 marks yet converts to exactly 90%). Use it because a form demands a percentage, not because it is true.
The Nepali scale
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A+ (90-100) | 4.0 |
| A (80-89) | 3.6 |
| B+ (70-79) | 3.2 |
| B (60-69) | 2.8 |
| C+ (50-59) | 2.4 |
| C (40-49) | 2.0 |
| D (35-39) | 1.6 |
| NG (below 35) | 0.0 |
The NEB letter grading directive as revised in 2078 BS (2021/22): A+ carries 4.0 down to D at 1.6, and below 35 a subject is Non-Graded (NG) rather than failed, with a grade-increment exam to clear it. The older D+/E bands with 1.2 and 0.8 points were removed in that revision and still circulate on stale pages - this table is the current one. SEE averages all subjects equally; Class 11 and 12 transcripts weight by credit hours, so use the credit column for +2 and leave it at 1 for SEE. On sourcing: the Board no longer lists this directive, so the table comes from Nepali sources reproducing it rather than from the Board's own document. Confirmation requested on 3 October 2026 from the Information Officer at the National Examinations Board, Sanothimi, an autonomous body under Nepal's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Waiting on official word.
Second hand, not the issuing body. The National Examinations Board's site is reachable and we link it, but the Letter Grading Directive that sets the scale is not published on it. So the board is the right authority and we cannot link the instrument, which is why this sits as second hand rather than primary. The document we can show you is National Examinations Board of Nepal, which reports the scale rather than setting it. Click for the document we hold. We read it on 3 October 2026. We have read grading documents from all over the world and could not find one that settles this. If you have a link to an official source, send it to us and we will read it and say so here.
Questions about Nepali grades
How is the SEE GPA calculated?
Every subject's grade point (A+ 4.0, A 3.6, B+ 3.2, B 2.8, C+ 2.4, C 2.0, D 1.6) is averaged with equal weight. A subject below 35 marks is NG and carries no grade point until cleared through the grade-increment exam.
How is the Class 12 GPA different from SEE?
Same letter table, different weighting: +2 transcripts carry credit hours per subject, and the GPA weights each grade point by those hours. A 5-credit subject moves the GPA five times as far as a 1-credit one.
How do I convert my GPA to a percentage?
NEB does not issue percentages, so there is no official conversion. A convention of multiplying the GPA by 25 circulates, so a 3.6 is quoted as 90 per cent. NEB does not publish it, so treat it as a convention rather than an official conversion and say so when you use it.
What GPA do I need to pass SEE?
There is no failing GPA. A subject below 35 marks becomes NG (Non-Graded), and you clear it by sitting the grade-increment exam for that subject; the rest of your grade sheet stands.
Is this the same system as Tribhuvan University?
No. No. Tribhuvan University runs its own system, and we have not read its regulations, so this page does not state its boundaries. The NEB table on this page covers SEE and Class 11-12 only.
