Lithuanian higher education grades on a 10-point scale, and only the top six points pass: 10 (puikiai, excellent), 9 (labai gerai, very good), 8 (gerai, good), 7 (vidutiniškai, highly satisfactory), 6 (patenkinamai, satisfactory) and 5 (silpnai, sufficient) as the lowest passing grade. Everything from 4 down is a single failing band, nepatenkinamai, that earns no credits. Those names are the ones Vilniaus kolegija's assessment annex sets out, and SKVC, the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education, describes the same ladder set out the same ladder.
A course grade in Lithuania is usually a kaupiamasis balas - a cumulative score - composed from midterm work, assignments and the final examination in proportions each course publishes in its description. What this page computes sits one level up: the svertinis vidurkis, the weighted average across courses, each grade multiplied by its ECTS credits and divided by the total. That is the figure scholarship rankings and Master's admissions read.
Converting outward, the shape matters more than the numbers: the Lithuanian pass line sits at the middle of the scale, so a 7 (vidutiniškai) is a middling result and an 8 (gerai) a good one, with 9s and 10s sparingly given. A linear map onto a 4.0 GPA misreads that - quote your vidurkis with its scale, "8.4 of 10", and let the evaluator apply their own table. For the neighbouring Baltic systems, see the Latvian and Estonian calculators - three countries, three genuinely different ladders.

The 10-point scale used across Lithuanian higher education since 1993: 10 (puikiai) at the top, 5 (silpnai) the lowest passing grade, and everything from 4 down a single failing band, nepatenkinamai, that earns no credits. A 5 means the knowledge and skills meet the minimum criteria, which in practice is about half the required scope. At VIKO a course grade is a kaupiamasis balas, a cumulative score built from midterms, assignments and the final exam in proportions each course sets. The weighted average (svertinis vidurkis) weights each grade by its ECTS credits and is what scholarship rankings read.

Questions this calculator gets asked
How is the svertinis vidurkis calculated in Lithuania?
Each course's grade on the 10-point scale is multiplied by the course's ECTS credits, the products are summed, and the total is divided by total credits. A 6-credit course therefore moves the average twice as hard as a 3-credit one. This calculator runs exactly that arithmetic live.
What is the passing grade in Lithuania?
5 (silpnai) is the lowest passing grade. Grades from 4 down are one failing band, nepatenkinamai, and all fail, and a failed course earns no credits until retaken. Six of the ten points pass, which puts the pass line at the middle of the scale rather than near the bottom.
What is a kaupiamasis balas?
The cumulative score most Lithuanian courses use to produce the final grade: midterm assessments, assignments and the final examination each carry a published percentage weight, and the course grade is their weighted combination. The proportions differ course by course, and the course description is where they live.
Is a 7 a good grade in Lithuania?
A 7 (vidutiniškai) is a middling result, and an 8 is gerai. The 9 and 10 are given sparingly, which is why a straight rescale understates a Lithuanian transcript.
How do Lithuanian grades convert to a US GPA?
There is no official conversion, so quote your average with its scale and let the evaluator read it. If you want a number for shortlisting, the GPA converter places your grade between this scale's pass line and its ceiling and prints the arithmetic it used, which is a method you can check rather than a table we made up.
Is this Lithuanian grade calculator free, with nothing uploaded?
Yes. No account and no upload - your courses and grades are handled in your own browser and never reach a server, and the page keeps working offline once loaded.
