Marks on the 10-point scale (thang điểm 10), credit-weighted, your average live as you type.

Vietnamese universities mark each course on the 10-point scale, with a D from 4.0 as the lowest pass, and your transcript carries a credit-weighted average (điểm trung bình). Enter marks and credits (tín chỉ) below and that average updates as you type, decimals included - a 7.8 is a real and common mark. The graduation classification, the xếp loại, is a separate thing and does not come off this number: under the current credit-system regulation it is read from the 4-point cumulative GPA. The FAQ below has the lines.
Under the credit system, transcripts usually also carry a 4-point conversion (8.5-10 → A = 4.0, 7.0-8.4 → B+/B, and so on by the common mapping), which is what foreign evaluators see first. Compute the 10-scale average here - it is the primary record - and let the FAQ below handle how the two scales relate. The high-school graduation score is a different, exactly-defined formula: the điểm xét tốt nghiệp calculator implements the ministry's 2025 rules.
The scale this page uses
| Letter grade | Minimum /10 |
|---|---|
| A (8.5-10) | 8.5 |
| B (7.0-8.4) | 7.0 |
| C (5.5-6.9) | 5.5 |
| D (4.0-5.4, lowest pass) | 4.0 |
| F (below 4.0) | 0.0 |
Under the Ministry of Education and Training's 2021 training regulations, each course is marked out of 10 and converted to a letter: A from 8.5, B from 7.0, C from 5.5, D from 4.0 as the lowest pass, F below 4.0. This page averages your 10-point marks, weighted by credits. One thing to know before you read a ranking off that average: the graduation classification (xếp loại) is NOT taken from the 10-point average. It is taken from the cumulative average on the 4-point scale - xuất sắc from 3.60, giỏi from 3.20, khá from 2.50, trung bình from 2.00 - and xuất sắc or giỏi is dropped by one level if the credits of courses you retook exceed 5 per cent of the whole programme.

Questions this calculator gets asked
How is the grade average calculated in Vietnamese universities?
Each course's mark out of 10 is multiplied by its tín chỉ (credits), summed, and divided by total credits. That weighted điểm trung bình is what this calculator computes.
What average is Giỏi or Xuất sắc?
Under the current credit-system regulation, Circular 08/2021, the xếp loại is set by the 4-point cumulative GPA, not the 10-point average: Xuất sắc from 3.6, Giỏi from 3.2, Khá from 2.5, Trung bình from 2.0. The older year-based system, Decision 25/2006, classified on the 10-point scale instead, with Giỏi from 8.0 and Xuất sắc from 9.0, so an older transcript may carry that ladder. Check which system your programme ran on.
How does the 10-point scale convert to the 4-point scale?
By the common credit-system mapping: 8.5-10 is an A (4.0), 8.0-8.4 B+ (3.5), 7.0-7.9 B (3.0), 6.5-6.9 C+ (2.5), 5.5-6.4 C (2.0), 5.0-5.4 D+ (1.5), 4.0-4.9 D (1.0), below 4.0 F. Universities print both scales on transcripts.
Is 7.5 a good average in Vietnam?
On the 10-point scale a 7.5 sits in the Khá range. Whether it becomes your graduation xếp loại depends on your 4-point cumulative GPA under the credit system, which is a different number from this average.
Do failed courses count in the average?
A course below the passing mark must be retaken, and under most credit-system rules the retake grade replaces the fail in the cumulative average - enter the grades your transcript will finally carry.
