Weighted Grade Calculator
Each category's average times its weight - homework 20%, quizzes 30%, final 50% - added up as you type, with both honest answers when the term is only part-graded.

How a weighted grade works
A weighted syllabus fixes each category's share of the course before any grades exist: if the final is 50%, it is 50% whether it has twenty questions or two hundred. The arithmetic is one line - each category average times its weight, summed - so with homework at 92, quizzes at 85 and a final at 78 on a 20/30/50 syllabus, the course grade is 92×0.20 + 85×0.30 + 78×0.50 = 82.9%, a B.
The trap is the part-finished term, and it is why this calculator prints two numbers when your weights do not reach 100. If only homework and quizzes are graded, dividing by 100 quietly assumes the final scored zero. Dividing by the 50 points of weight actually completed gives the grade you have earned so far. Both are true answers to different questions - one is where you stand, the other is your floor - and a calculator that shows only one is deciding for you which question you asked.
The neighbours to this page
The grade calculator is the hub: the same weighted mode plus a points mode and a teacher's quick grader in one place. The final grade calculator answers the reverse question - what the final must score to land a target. For a single test out of a number of questions, the test grade calculator is quicker, and a semester grade built from quarters and an exam has its own page. Finished courses turn into a GPA on the college GPA calculator.
Questions this calculator gets asked
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each category's average by its weight, add the products, and divide by the total weight used. With homework 20%, quizzes 30% and the final 50%: 92×0.20 + 85×0.30 + 78×0.50 = 82.9%. The calculator above runs exactly that arithmetic as you type.
What if my weights don't add up to 100?
Then two different numbers are true at once, and this page prints both. Dividing by the weight actually graded gives the grade you have earned so far; dividing by 100 tells you where the course lands if everything ungraded scored zero. Most sites silently pick one - knowing which question you are asking matters more than the arithmetic.
What is the difference between weighted and points grading?
Weighted grading fixes each category's share of the course in advance - the final is 50% no matter how many points it carries. Points grading just adds everything up, so a 200-point final is automatically worth twice a 100-point midterm. Your syllabus says which one your course uses; the grade calculator's points mode handles the other.
Is this the same as a weighted GPA?
No. A weighted GPA adds bonus points for harder courses - honors +0.5, AP/IB +1.0 - on a transcript. This page weights categories inside ONE course. For the transcript version, use the high school GPA calculator.
What do I need on my final to hit a target grade?
That is the reverse question and it has its own page: the final grade calculator takes your current grade, the final's weight and your target, and returns the score the final has to carry.
Is this weighted grade calculator free and private?
Free, no account, and nothing is uploaded. Categories, grades and weights are processed in your browser, stay on your device, and the page works offline once loaded.
